I have spent time in three military organizations in the past ten years, and the basic rule is that things will fail, break, come apart, explode, burn, sink, or get lost exactly when you need them. The need for the knife and gun are basic, essential, and fundamental to free people. Since their inception, handguns have provided equality and protection to anyone who invests the time to train in their use. Unfortunately, this view has been stricken by a whole generation of people who have never had to sacrifice like those who came before us. This in no way lessens the simple utility and function of the knife and personal firearm in our world today, but it does necessitate a sort of social camouflage for many of us who work amongst a more diverse work force that encourages disarmament for the "safety" of everyone else.
