Military Match
The ability to make fire is, without question, crucial in a survival
situation. Scrape magnesium shavings into a small pile and ignite with the flint
- the result is a 5,400¡ start to your fire. Or, if dry tinder is available use
just the flint to get it started. These sparks are twice as hot as a match flame
so they light most readily flammable materials. When your tinder is damp and
hard to light you need more heat. If it's rainy, or snowy, even just foggy and
damp you need more heat to dry the tinder and light your fire. That's when you
scrape the silver part. That's the magnesium. It's metal, so it's waterproof,
and it's a metal that burns! Scrape a pile of shavings from the magnesium rod,
put your damp tinder on top (heat goes up), light it with sparks from your
flint, and you've got fire! 5,400 degrees Fahrenheit. Available in two sizes -
the Original Military Match (top right), and the larger Military Match II
(bottom left). |
