![]() Clothing for survival is an individual, and regional choice. Often unexpected situations can come about rapidly while wearing things not suited the best for emergencies, so I've found an added hat or pair of gloves can make a big difference. A long time ago I got in the habit of always throwing a jacket in the car no matter what the weather, and it's paid off numerous times. Mother nature doesn't care what the forecast is, and as we all know, things can go bad pretty quick on an otherwise nice day. Plan for the worst, and jam a pair pf gloves or a terrain specific hat in your gear or jacket pocket. If you've ever been really cold, or outside for a long time under the blazing sun, you'll think twice before you leave the house. Of course you can always die in the latest fashions, but where does that get you? Take the time to think about your destination and logically imagine the weather there, then imagine being outside wherever you're going overnight. That should be your emergency packing list, or supplemental wear. Urban areas offer their own challenges. Just because you are in an inhabited area doesn't mean shelter is a given. Plan wisely, and always be prepared for the unexpected night out in the elements.
